Alimony Under Post-2018 Divorce Decrees and Separation Agreements


Alimony paid under a divorce decree or separation agreement that was finalized after December 31, 2018, is not taxable to the recipient-spouse or deductible by the payor-spouse. Alimony under pre-2019 decrees or separation agreements continues to be taxable to the recipient-spouse and deductible by the payor.
